True Love

What is Love? What does it mean? More important what does love mean to you? Love by definition means - (noun) a profoundly tender, passionate affection for another person. Well, by this definition I think I've been in love before...I like the way Neyo puts it in one his new songs, "I never thought I'd hear my self say. Y'all go ahead I think I'm going to kick it with my girl today. I use to be commander and chief of my pimp riding high, until this pretty little missile shot me out the sky..." Those may not be the exact words but it sounds something like that. Fellas have you been in this kind of love?

My definition of love, which my friends and I affectionately refer to as, "that love monkey jumping on your back," is a serious type of love that I have to be honest I can't wait to experience. I said I "think" I've been in love, but I "know" I've been in love before on a lot of different levels. Love is funny because it will make you do things you've never done before, or never thought you'd do.

This weekend I think I saw that monkey on the back type of love. To protect the innocence I'm going to use fictional names. Let's call one of my best friends, Mike and his future wife Kim. They looked very happy together, they looked like they were in love. And to get to that point I'm sure it's tough on anyone, so congratulations on that fam!

i agree that you definitely experience love on a lot of different levels but i think ’true love’ is the deepest. and i've always thought that there is only one 'true love' for each of us, but i'm not so sure about that...and what got me questioning this was one of my favorite lines from the movie "love jones" (next to dirty dancin, my favorite movie)...two friends talking about true love and lorenz says that you only get one true love, two tops, in life...his friend follows up by saying "love is what you make and with whom you make it"...i think that is also true. to me ‘true love’ is that unconditional, would do anything and everything for that person, he/she is your best friend and you can’t live without him/her type love. true love is a crazy and scary thing and something you have to work hard for (especially to keep it), but is also the most magical thing to experience in life....i too can't wait to experience it and have that 'love monkey jumping on my back'.

my question to folks is do you think you only get one ‘true love’?

Well Shell's I appreciate your honest and open insight. I think love is what you make it and who you make it with. What I do believe is you only get one shot at that certain person. Others may come along and I'm sure they will, but it's burning feeling of falling in love with that certain smile, or laugh, or the way they kiss you good night. I don't believe you ever get those feelings back.

I think you initially fall in love with a persons effect on you emotionally. One person may make you feel warm and protected and another person may make you feel like that's the role in the relationship that you play, the protector.

Some connections are physically and passionate and others talk about marrying a best friend. With that said, thanks for the comment and providing a question that may generate some conversation.
